What Christmas means to me

Last week my class got to write about what christmas means to them. I wrote about what christmas means to me. Christmas is not a time of opening presents its about Giving and spending time with family. Here is what Christmas means to me!

What Christmas means to me

Christmas is a time about giving, Happiness and joy. It's not all about the gifts, it about spending time with friends and family. And also celebrating when Jesus was born. Most of us have a tradition like for me and my family. We like to put on a BBQ for our friends.

This is what Christmas means to me!

Goal Setting Update

Today we were seeing if we achieved our Term 1 goal setting. Which is went we did it in term one that went on for the year that we had to accomplish. I did well on my social goal because I helped people make new friends. I showed people how to do their blogs and helped with their work.
I enjoyed going and looking and seeing what I think I achieved.
Here is my Goal Setting.

Digital Art work

Today for cybersmart we are starting our summer learning journey. We went through some videos to see what we had to do. We went onto this link called Art Colouring Book. There are lots of choices to choose from like a wave like I did and flowers and many more. Then you can click on the one you want and if you want to you can see the original photo you press the photo icon that looks like two mountains.
It comes up with the original photo so you can try and copy it if you want to.
I enjoyed trying new colours to put on the wave.
I found it tricky to copy the image because the colours aren't going where I want them to go.
Here is the original

Camping in the Bush

This week for our reading task we had to research some information about what we might need to know when we go camping. We chose to do a solar barbeque because it could be useful. We had to list the instructions and what you needed to make it. We were allowed to go in buddys and I chose Manvi. We have been learning to inference. Inference means a conclusion on the basis of proof and reasoning. My answers for the inference question was, dad can't read the instructions for the tent so he insisted of making a shelter instead.
I enjoyed finding the pictures for what you will need.
I found it tricky to find what you need because I keep going to the wrong page.
Here is our information sheet

Parihaka

For reading we have been learning about Parihaka.
Parihaka happened in the 1880s. When the New Zealand government sent soldiers in to take Maori land. Then they sold all the land to the people who arrived in New Zealand from England. The people of Parihaka were forced to find a new place to live because the soldiers burnt their houses and destroyed their crops. The Māori chiefs, Te Whiti and Tohu were put in prison for no reason.
I enjoyed Writing all the information on the feather.
I found it tricky to put my feather together because the pieces kept moving.

Thank you letter

This week the students of Saint Marys are writing a thank you letter to one or two people who came and helped on camp. We wrote about how we thank them and what our favorite activities are. There were so many to choose from but I chose Ray. He was my bus driver!
I enjoyed writing about how much I thank them and the fun activities we did.

Dear Ray

I am writing to you to thank you about all the hard work you have done to get us from Gisborne to Rotorua, and back again. All of the people on the bus (Including me and my buddy Maddi) were really noisy. You got us safely there and safely back. We are not supposed to eat and drink on the bus but you kindly let us when it was raining. You let us go inside and let us eat our lunch.

My favorites on camp were Slingshot Paintball, Flying fox, Paradise Valley, The Luge.

They were the most favorites in camp because I have never done any of them before. (except the luge, I have done it before) The flying fox was the scariest but I took one more step than I could.

So thank you so much for taking us to camp really safley. You are the best bus driver I have ever met in my entire life so thank you so much Ray!

The Apple Tree Dilemma

For Reading we have been reading The Apple Tree Dilemma. It's about a brother and a sister who have an apple tree outside their property and some neighbours moved next door. The neighbours claimed it as their tree. The brother and sister got upset because the neighbours put a side near the tree saying 'No trespassers or you will be prosecuted." Dad told the brother and sister that the tree wasn't theirs because it was outside both properties. In the end they shared the tree.

We had to compare dad with another character of our choice from another book. I chose Mr Large from The Recruit. They were the same because they both strict and frustrated. They were different because Dad was nice and Mr Large was mean. You can see more about their personalities in my diagram.

Have you ever compared characters from different books before?

Letter To The Editor

Today for writing we wrote a letter to the Gisborne Herald. We wrote about why the blackberrys should be sprayed and taken away and about the water being clear for freshwater creatures.
I enjoyed writing to the editor because I never have before.
My digital learning object is to make more letters to editors.
Here is my letter
Dear Editor,
At Saint Mary’s School we are a Green Gold Enviro School. We have a river near the school (Taruheru River) where we plant our native trees and plants. But the problem is that we can’t plant more because of the blackberry bushes near the river and we want to get rid of them. We have tried contacting the Council so they could get rid of them but they wouldn't respond. We also want to get the water clear so it is healthy for freshwater creatures to live in. We want to plant more trees so the awa can get shade and also we want to let other insects and freshwater creatures like freshwater crayfish. We also want native birds to go down to the river and sit on a branch in the shade. I firmly believe that the blackberry should be removed by the council so we can keep planting more native trees and plants for our birds, insects and freshwater creatures to live in.

September Reflection News Letter

Today we made a September reflection newsletter.
Every month we do this to reflect on our learning. It has all the things we have done this month. We reflect on it to see what we have accomplished and what we still need to learn.
I enjoyed choosing the background.
I found it tricky to write about enviroschools
Next time I would change the fonts

5 Holiday Things To Do

This week for Cybersmart we were learning to engage the reader, make them do something digitally and Sisomo which means Sound, Sight and motion. We could use Canva, WeVideo, Book Creator and google drawing. I chose google drawings because I knew how to use it better. We are trying not to use Google Slides all the time.
I enjoyed choosing fonts and backgrounds because they looked really good and they were all different.
I found it tricky to choose the best places I know because there are loads of good places to choose from in Gisborne.
Next time I would change the background and colours so they stand out more.
Here is my poster:

Biosecurity Ad

This week for reading we read about biosecurity. Biosecurity is making sure pests don't come into New Zealand. We had to design an ad telling people to check their gear and the reason why. I made a poster about biosecurity explaining about how pests are bad to come into our country and that pests live inside some fruit and dairy products.
I enjoyed making the colours for the background,
I found it tricky to explain about biosecurity.
Next time I would change the fonts and colours.

Māori Language week book

This week is Māori language week. In Cybersmart we were using Book Creator to create a book with Māori words. Mine was about Māori greetings and farewells to teach people how to say Māori words. We even put audios in for the right pronunciation.
I enjoyed making the book because I have never made one before.
I found it tricky to say the Māori words right.
Next time I would change the fonts and backgrounds

August Reflection Newsletter

This is our August Reflection. Every month we do this to reflect on our learning. It has all the things we have done this month. Have you ever done a reflection newsletter to reflect on your learning before?
I enjoyed writing the trivia questions.
I found it tricky to write what I was confident about.
Next time I would change my background on my reflection because it is too dark.
Here is my Reflection Newsletter!
